Tourist centres of interest

Not to be missed !

The Halle de La Machine is a key feature of the Piste des Géants (Runway of Giants) cultural attraction. This provides a facility for La Machine, a group of artists that constructs huge animated figures like the Minotaur, a giant spider and hundreds of other strange creatures. This newly developed site, in the new Toulouse Aerospace neighbourhood at Montaudran, is located on the mythical aerodrome from which the historical pioneers of aviation took off and hosts L’Envol des Pionniers, a permanent exhibition combining an immersion into the adventures of the early pioneers and an exploration of the site’s history. There are also public gardens.

Tourism and leisure

Toulouse, lying alongside the Garonne River and key city along the 17th century Canal du Midi (UNESCO World Herritage), is a popular tourist destination, with many places of historical interest. These include the Capitole main square, religious buildings (including the Saint-Sernin Basilica, Saint-Etienne Cathedral, the former Dominican monastery of les Jacobins), the Roman arena, Renaissance town houses (Assézat, Dupuy, Rességuier, etc.) and many other historic monuments.

You can also roam around the many parks and gardens (Compans-Caffarelli Japanese Garden, Grand Rond, Jardin Royal, Jardin des Plantes, Parc de la Maourine, etc.) and the old narrow streets. In addition to the many shops, there are both covered and open-air markets.

Toulouse boasts many prestigious museums and art galleries to visit (Musée des Augustins, Musée des AbattoirsMuséumMusée St Raymond…).

Industrial tourism

The city that saw the development of Aéropostale, the first civilian international airmail service, is now home to Airbus (you can go on organised tours of the assembly line). Then there is the Cité de l’Espace, a park dedicated to the history of the universe and space technology with a host of animations and exhibits. All these are available at preferential rates.
