Nine spots, nine ways to take burgers seriously. From the stripped-down “smash” to beef bourguignon sandwiched between two buns.
Junk takes the lead for the patty, L’Antidòt for flavor and service, and Supérette for its two types of meat: here’s our ranking of the best burgers in Toulouse, featuring nine restaurants, thirteen locations, a map to help you find your way, and Albert’s tips for choosing.
In our A selection of street food in Toulouse, we’d skipped the burgers, promising to come back. The promise seemed simple. Then we had to choose between a crust of grilled meat, a cheese sauce generous enough to drip onto the table, and a bourguignon that refuses to stay on its plate. That’s how we ended up devoting an entire feature to what happens between two slices of bread.
Here are our nine favorite places to eat a burger in Toulouse, in order. This ranking reflects our personal tastes: how the patty is cooked, the bun, the quality of the ingredients, and the service matter just as much as the generous toppings. We’ll tell you what we like—without holding back on any minor reservations. And since most of these spots are just a few minutes’ walk from our hotel in downtown Toulouse, you won’t need a car.
Toulouse’s Burger Map, According to Albert
The numbers correspond to the ranking order. Several stores have multiple locations: the selection includes thirteen locations for nine stores, ranging from the Carmes neighborhood to the Halles de la Cartoucherie.

Smash Burger
1. Junk: The Authentic, Delicious Smash Burger

📍 41 rue des Filatiers, 31000 Toulouse
Website: junkburgers.com
Note: Open daily from noon to 10:30 p.m. without a break. The restaurant chain was founded in Paris in 2021 on Rue Montmartre; Toulouse is one of its locations outside the capital, along with Bordeaux, Lyon, and Nantes.
At Junk, the smash burger gets right to the point: a toasted brioche bun, French beef pressed on the griddle, American cheese, and a house-made sauce. You can choose from sizes S through XXL—ranging from one to five patties—and then add pickles, jalapeños, or fried onions if you like. A truffle version and a veggie option have joined the lineup. The classic remains our starting point.
For us, it’s the best smash burger in Toulouse. The meat has that thin crust that immediately makes you want to come back for more; the cheese melts into the whole instead of standing out on its own. The brioche holds its own and lets the steak take center stage. Minimalism can quickly become a double-edged sword in cooking: with so few ingredients, every aspect of the preparation stands out. Here, it gives you a reason to order another one. And it’s much more filling than it looks.
Google reviews rave about the burgers, fries, and cookies. The fries are definitely worthy of the praise. Puffy’s cookies are excellent too, but they’re honestly quite pricey. You can complain about that as you finish off the last crumbs—which is still a pretty fair form of criticism. Rue des Filatiers, meanwhile, leads you straight to the Carmes Market to help with digestion.
Albert’s tip: Order an M with pickles to get a feel for the place. The fries are a must; the cookie is an extra treat, so factor that into your budget.
Home and Vegetarian
2. The Antidòt Burger: Taste and People
📍 10 rue du Taur, 31000 Toulouse
Website: antidot-burger.fr
Good to know: It’s just a stone’s throw from the Capitol and a three-minute walk from the hotel. The restaurant features organic, local, and sustainably sourced ingredients.
Rue du Taur could easily just cater to passersby in a hurry. But L’Antidòt has chosen to prepare meals for them. Organic, local, or sustainably sourced ingredients—depending on the dish—vegetarian options with pancakes made on-site, and student-friendly menus: it doesn’t take long to see what the restaurant stands for. And above all, you’ll find that the food is a real treat.
The service is also a big factor in our choice. The food lives up to expectations: the burgers are generous, and the vegetarian options are a real highlight on the menu—not just an afterthought. We recommend this spot just as much for lunch as for the people behind the counter.
Albert’s tip: Ask for the dish that’s currently the most popular, and order the fries. The staff will be happy to help you choose.
Smash or thick-cut steak
3. Convenience Store: Two Approaches to Meat
📍 7 Place de l’Estrapade, 31300 Toulouse
Website: superette-burger.com
Note: Open seven days a week, for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and for dinner from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Eat in or take out.
Supérette has found a very simple way to avoid the “cheeseburger war.” On one side, the “smash” cheeseburger, with its flattened patties, cheese, and pickles. On the other, “The Classic,” a thicker patty with lettuce, tomato, onions, and house-made sauce. The beef comes from the Bannelier butcher shop ; the bun is a Martin’s Potato Roll. With both versions, the first thing that lingers on the palate is the taste of the meat.
The Classic is a big hit, especially for its sauce, while Smash fans rave about how it’s seared. A few reviews say the burger is too salty. But if you like light, airy buns and the taste of the meat, you’ll definitely enjoy it.
The Saint-Cyprien neighborhood suits him well, just two blocks from the Saint-Cyprien covered market. Grab a burger, sit down, or take it to go—and you’re all set.
Albert’s tip: If there are two of you, order a Smash and a Classic, then share them. Some debates are worth crossing the Garonne for.
Generous Burgers
4. Burger’n’Co: Always Plenty to Eat
📍 20 rue Pierre-Paul Riquet, 31000 Toulouse (Saint-Aubin)
📍 10 Esplanade Compans Caffarelli, 31000 Toulouse
Website: burgernco.fr
Good to know: homemade burgers and craft beers—eat in, takeout, or delivery. The restaurant’s slogan sets the tone: “Eat Loud. Live Fast.”
Burger’n’Co has been making a big splash since 2011. The burger names evoke rock ’n’ roll, the restaurant is decked out with guitars, and the burgers are often so generous they fill the whole box. Here, we’re highlighting its two Toulouse locations, in Saint-Aubin and Compans Caffarelli.
What we love is the homemade feel that shines through in the generous portions: a sauce with a kick, familiar ingredients, and the simple pleasure of a classic burger given a fresh twist with a touch of flair. At Saint-Aubin, you’ll find the generous portions and rock-and-roll vibe that define the place, and on Sunday mornings, the Saint-Aubin Market is held right next door.
There are many ways to personalize it. However, it’s best to exercise some restraint: a few well-chosen additions are enough.
Albert’s tip: Customize it, but don’t go overboard with the extras. The basic burger already has everything you need.
Flavors of the Southwest
5. Les Mecs au Camion: Local Flavors on Wheels
📍 37 Allées Jules Guesde, 31400 Toulouse (the truck)
📍 Halles de la Cartoucherie, 10 Place de la Charte des Libertés Communales, 31300 Toulouse
Website: lesmecsaucamion.com
Note: The Halles de la Cartoucherie stand is open every day of the year, for lunch and dinner on weekdays, and all day on weekends. MACs also operate in Montaudran, Colomiers, and at the Friche Gramont, with hours that vary by location.
MAC had the great idea of bringing the flavors of southwestern France to the table without turning every burger into a gourmet postcard. Beef from Aveyron, bold cheeses, and sometimes chorizo or sheep’s milk cheese: the recipes have a regional flair, but they’re still burgers you eat with your hands.
This fifth-place finish comes with one caveat: consistency. Our burgers are good—sometimes very good—but the quality varies from day to day. With multiple teams and locations, consistency becomes the real challenge. When the cooking and assembly are on point, the ingredients really shine, and the burgers can be excellent.
The food truck, Les Halles, and other locations don’t always have the same hours or the same menu. Checking the website before you go will help you avoid disappointment.
Albert’s tip: Check where the truck is located that day and try a recipe that features a cheese from the Southwest.
Smash and Variations
6. Valentino Smash House: Cooking Takes Center Stage

📍 56 rue des Blanchers, 31000 Toulouse
Website: valentinosmashhouse.fr
Good to know: The restaurant serves American-style smash burgers that are entirely halal. This is useful information when planning a dinner party.
Valentino knows what a sizzling griddle can do to a flattened steak. The edges brown, the surface becomes flavorful, and each bite retains that grilled taste that draws in smash enthusiasts. The menu offers more variety than Junk or Supérette, with a wide selection that pays no heed to dietary considerations.
Les Blanchers, just a stone’s throw from Place Saint-Pierre, is a great choice for those who love the “smash” style but want to be able to vary their order from one visit to the next. There are heartier dishes, richer sauces, and a desire to get creative. The grilled flavor of the beef remains Valentino’s main draw.
Albert’s tip: Start with a beef burger to get a feel for how they cook it. Try the other options on your next visit.
Cheddar and Bao
7. BĀGGĀ: napkins and cheddar
📍 2 rue de l’Abbé Gabriel Latour, 31200 Toulouse
Instagram: @baggaburger
Note: The address is about five kilometers north of the Capitol, outside the city center. Plan to get there by subway, bus, or bike.
BĀGGĀ never promised a lunch that would go well with a white shirt. Some burgers—notably the “Winter Lover” family, as listed on the menu—feature raclette, potato pancakes, and cheddar sauce. The cheese overflows, and your hands follow. You have to be in the mood for it—and own it all the way to the end of the table.
The restaurant has more to offer than just this cheese dip: smash burgers, bao burgers, marinated chicken, and sauces that sometimes draw inspiration from Asian cuisine.
You don’t come to BĀGGĀ for restraint. You come here for a burger that turns a meal into a slightly messy event. If melted cheddar is your idea of a treat, you’ve found the place.
Albert’s tip: Order the cheese burger when it’s on the menu; on your second visit, try a bao, since not all the dishes are dripping with sauce either.
Slow-Cooked Meat
8. Les Filoches: The Burgundian Takes Off
📍 1 rue Saint-Joseph, 31400 Toulouse
Instagram: @lesfiloches
Good to know: on the Saint-Michel side, just south of the Grand Rond. This spot takes a little more effort to find than the others—and so does the bourguignon.
Fred and Pierre are butchers. That helps explain why their burger concept starts with the meat rather than the name on the menu. The beef is slowly simmered Burgundy-style, then shredded and slipped into a bun. The pork is cooked in beer, the chicken is crispy; a sweet potato patty also offers an option for vegetarians.
Bourguignon is the main reason to visit for the first time. It offers a depth of flavor and tenderness that a quick-cooked steak simply can’t match.
You have to accept the nature of the dish: a slow-cooked burger will be richer, more tender, and harder to hold than a “smash” burger. It’s precisely this art of preparing the meat that sets Les Filoches apart from the other spots in our selection. Be sure to come with a hearty appetite.
Albert’s tip: Order the beef bourguignon, then the fries. Then you’ll know if you’ll come back for the pork in beer.
Choices for Everyone
9. Novo Burger: The Menu of Possibilities
📍 4 rue des Lois, 31000 Toulouse (Capitole)
📍 6–8 Avenue Honoré Serres, 31000 Toulouse
📍 50 Avenue des États-Unis, 31200 Toulouse
Websites: novoburger-serres.fr and novoburger-etatsunis.fr
Note: There are three locations in Toulouse, including the one on Rue des Lois, a three-minute walk from Place du Capitole and the hotel.
Novo Burger’s menu has something to satisfy even a group that can’t seem to agree: classic recipes, goat cheese and honey, raclette, mushrooms, chicken, vegetarian options, and plenty of variations. The restaurant boasts meat sourced from a local butcher, bread baked by its own baker, and homemade sauces.
Novo is a convenient choice when everyone has different tastes. The variety of dishes means that beef lovers, chicken lovers, and fans of vegetarian burgers can all enjoy the same order, and the location on Rue des Lois makes it easy to get there if you’re staying downtown.
Albert’s tip: the perfect spot for a group with conflicting tastes. Let everyone choose, and no one will leave feeling frustrated.
Which burger should you choose in Toulouse, depending on what you’re in the mood for?
When it comes to smash burgers, our top pick is still Junk. Supérette lets you compare the smashed patty to a thicker steak, while Valentino offers more elaborate recipes. L’Antidòt stands out for its warm welcome and homemade vegetarian patties. For flavors from the Southwest, check out Les Mecs au Camion, keeping an eye on their location. To branch out from the classic burger, try the bourguignon at Les Filoches or the cheese-based creations at BĀGGĀ. And when the group can’t agree, Novo brings everyone together around a single order.
